What this image converter does

Pick a target format and this tool rewrites each of your pictures as a PNG, JPG or WebP file. It reads common inputs including JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and, where your browser supports it, AVIF. Conversion is quick even for batches: each file shows its old and new size, and a ZIP button collects the whole set. File names are kept, with only the extension changed, so your folders stay organised.

When to use it

  • A website builder, print shop or government portal only accepts JPG or PNG, but your photo is WebP or AVIF.
  • You want lighter WebP files for a website and have a folder of PNG or JPG originals.
  • You need a lossless PNG copy of a screenshot before editing it.
  • A design asset has to be flattened onto a solid background for an application that ignores transparency.

How to pick the right format

PNG is lossless, supports transparency and is ideal for logos, icons, diagrams and screenshots, but photographs saved as PNG are large. JPG is lossy, has no transparency and is the universal choice for photos. WebP can do both lossy and transparent images and is typically the smallest of the three, though a few older programs still cannot open it. If in doubt, use JPG for sharing and WebP for your own website.

When you convert a transparent PNG or WebP to JPG, the see-through areas must become a solid colour. White is the default, but you can choose any background with the colour picker so the result matches your page. Converting from JPG to PNG will not restore quality that was already thrown away; it only stops further loss. The quality slider affects JPG and WebP, and is hidden for PNG because PNG is lossless.

Animated GIFs are converted using only their first frame, as canvas cannot read animation timing.

Worked example: a transparent PNG logo to JPG

A logo saved as logo.png, 800 × 600 pixels with a transparent background, has to go into a form that accepts only JPG. Choose JPG: the tool uses quality 90 by default and fills the see-through areas with white (#FFFFFF) unless you pick another background colour. The output is logo.jpg at exactly 800 × 600, because conversion does not change the dimensions. Choosing WebP instead gives logo.webp and keeps the transparency.

Typical: a flat logo can come out larger or smaller as JPG, while a photograph stored as PNG usually shrinks to a fraction of its size. Each row shows the old and new size, so check before you download.

Privacy: conversion happens in your browser

Every conversion is done on your own device with the browser's built-in image decoder and encoder. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is logged by a server, and you can use the tool offline once the page has loaded. That makes it safe for documents, personal photos and client files.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert WebP to JPG or PNG?

Yes. Add your WebP files, choose JPG or PNG, and download the results. Transparent WebP images get your chosen background colour when saved as JPG.

Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

JPG is lossy, so a small amount of detail is lost, controlled by the quality slider. At 90 percent the difference is rarely visible in photos, but sharp text and line art may show faint halos.

Why can I not choose AVIF as an output format?

Browsers can usually read AVIF but not all can write it from a canvas. PNG, JPG and WebP are the formats that work reliably everywhere, so those are the offered targets.

Will my converted image keep its transparency?

PNG and WebP keep transparency. JPG cannot store it, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes. Drop in as many images as you like and download them individually or together as a ZIP file created on your device.
